Nona, this is an intriguing piece! I'd love to know more about the process used to create it. It's hard to get the full effect from a photo, as it looks three-dimensional.

Welcome to Nona’s Art at Wahi Ngaro [the hidden place], located in New Zealand, an Island Paradise in the South Pacific. Here, the light is crystal clear, and time takes on another dimension. Here no place is more than half a day from Moana, the sea, and here I am fortunate to live and make my art.

About Me

My photo
Nona
Wellington, New Zealand
Born into a family of artists, Nona McCarley Parry was not “the artistic one”. By age seventeen she realised she was not going to be a Leonardo or Michelangelo, and so gave up art. Art, however, did not give up Nona. After an abortive foray into academia (philosophy), and a successful decade in business (computers), Nona found herself in full-time employment as a commercial artist in New York City, all the while denying she had anything to do with ART. She undertook studies in drawing and painting at the Art Students League, alongside “real artists”, but did not exhibit due to her belief she was “not good enough”. When at age forty-eight Nona permitted herself to apply to art school, she was awarded a full scholarship. She broke her head and her heart learning to play again. She exhibited prints and paintings, drawings, and collages. An artist friend suggested she have a go at altered books, and in them Nona discovered a flexible and powerful format in which to bring all her beloved arts together. Nona McCarley Parry makes art in Wellington, New Zealand, and exhibits around the world.
